How We Price
Sophisticated legal work should not come with an unpredictable bill. For most engagements we quote a single flat fee up front, so you know the full cost before we begin and we carry the risk if a matter runs long. You get senior-level work, direct access to the attorney doing it, and certainty about what it costs.
Flat fee, by project. Most discrete matters fit here: an entity formation, commercial contract preparation or review, an equity compensation plan, a stock option grant, a trademark registration. We scope the work, quote one fee, and include all of the calls, revisions, and follow-up reasonably related to the project. No hourly meter, no surprise invoice.
Monthly retainer, for ongoing counsel. For companies that need a lawyer who knows the business, we serve as outside general counsel on a fixed monthly retainer sized to your needs: cap table and equity administration, contract review and negotiation, board and investor matters, and the day-to-day legal questions that come with building a company. Predictable billing, a senior attorney, and someone who is already up to speed when issues arise.
Hourly, when it fits. Some matters are too open-ended to scope in advance, such as a contested negotiation or an evolving transaction. For those we bill at our standard hourly rates, and we will tell you up front when we think a matter belongs in this category rather than under a flat fee.
Every engagement begins with a conversation about what you need, followed by a written proposal with the scope and the fee clearly stated. You decide before any work, or any billing, begins.
About our consultations. The first conversation with us is a working session, not a sales call: we'll discuss the specifics of your situation and give you concrete direction before any engagement. The initial consultation is $300, credited in full against your first invoice if you retain us.
